The Ryobi Power Scrubber (VORTEX) turned out to be a surprise favorite in my cleaning arsenal — it tackled a filthy, catfishing-worn boat deck and stubborn streaks on my camper with way less effort than a manual deck brush. If you're already on the Ryobi ONE+ battery platform, it's a no-brainer addition for boats, campers, siding, and outdoor gear.
What is the Ryobi Power Scrubber VORTEX?
A few months ago, I received a Ryobi Power Scrubber. It had a broken part on it that I ordered online for cheap and got it up and running. This is a tool that I would have never purchased on my own. Just looking at it, I didn't see much point. It's essentially free, and I already had the Ryobi battery platform. I figured I'd give it a go.
At its core it's a slow revolution spinning brush. It is not a tool that is going to jerk out of your hands or perform violently. The slow motion allows you to focus on the area that you're trying to clean and, rather effortlessly, move it around during the cleaning process.
Ryobi Power Scrubber vs Manual Scrubbing with a traditional brush
The first couple of times I used this, it performed incredibly.
The deck of my boat is notoriously filthy from catfishing and other fishing activities. I used a lot of products that were recommended and scrubbed and scrubbed with my deck brush, and the deck would just never really come clean. I reached over and picked up the Ryobi Power Scrubber with just a little bit of water on the deck and turned it on. To my delight, the deck came almost perfectly clean.
I went back and added a little bit of pH-balanced soap, and the boat looked good as new with minimal effort. Shortly afterwards, my camper had developed some stubborn streaks. Once again, I pulled out the Ryobi power scrubber, and with minimal effort and the right cleaning agent, those streaks came right off.
Brush Attachments and Compatibility
Ryobi offers several different brush attachments for this, and it's important to get the right one to match the object that you're cleaning. They are easy to put on and off by simply rotating clockwise and counterclockwise until you hear a click. There are also adapters that allow you to use other types of non-Ryobi brushes as well.
Pros and Cons
Pros -
You get a good clean without hard scrubbing. The telescoping pole allows you to clean floors and other lower objects while still standing - so no more crouching and bending over. The slow revolution of the cleaning head is easy to control. Being battery operated means it's cordless - so no extension cord to drag around or power source to find.
Cons -
Being battery operated was a pro, but it's also a con. If you're already on another battery platform it's one more battery to buy and manage - unless you get a handy battery adapter (highly recommend).
Summary
Overall I like the power scrubber and anytime I need to clean the boat, camper, shower, or anything else like that - I reach for this scrubber. It cuts my cleaning time dramatically and provides better results. Because I've experienced the broken part for the brush head I gave durability 4 out of 5 stars. At the time of this writing it had a list price of $159 (with battery and charger) - which is a decent investment for a brush. The price point would have steered me away from trying it initially. So, 4 out of 5 stars. But overall, this is a great unit. Knowing what I know now - if mine broke, I'd buy it again.
